A volunteer group of video producers as well as WestfordCAT staff members learned this week that they have winning entries in the 2019 Nor’Easter Film Festival. The annual event is sponsored by the Alliance for Community Media, Northeast Chapter.
The Red Stormgears of the First Lego League, won first place for their video, the “Red Sea Press,” in which they proposed a solution to help Lowell residents keep trash from clogging their storm drains. Check out their idea here.
WestfordCAT News Director Joyce Pellino Crane, won second place for her episode of Main Street featuring Boots on the Ground, a non-profit organization founded to stem the opioid epidemic. Watch the discussion here.
WestfordCAT Video Systems Engineer Steve Edwards tied for third place for his first episode of Politicians in Pain, in which Town Moderator Susan Spuhler discussed local issues while eating increasingly spicy hot wings. See how they handle the heat here.
WestfordCAT Production Technician Nick Woodbury won third place for his short video, After The Bell, profiling the Westford Academy Art & Pottery Club with with WA Dean Betsy Murphy who organized the club’s involvement. Take a look here. Nick also worked on the winning episodes of Main Street and Politicians in Pain. Production Coordinator Patty Stocker contributed to the winning Main Street episode.
Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Portland, Maine, on October 31st, where they will be presented with a plaque or certificate commemorating their achievements. The annual festival is open to all public access producers, with divisions for professional and non-professional works and a wide variety of categories.
Videos created this year, before December 31st, can be submitted to next year’s 2020 Nor’Easters festival. WestfordCAT members and producers are encouraged to come in and make something.
